Potential DIY!

Hi there!

I know, i know….i’ve been bad and deserve to be punished.

and i repent! I know i haven’t blogged in a ridiculous amount of time, and again, please accept my apologies.

I propose something though…I could ramble on about how i’ve been so busy and how i havent had time for this, and blah blah blah (insert excuses 1-5 here)

OR

i can move on to today’s post (which i guarantee has promise to it).

So i’ll take the latter. Today, i want to share with you this picture

TOTALLY a Potential DIY Project

Do you guys see this? am i right in assuming that this is super awesome and that y’all think so too? How easy would this be to make? SUPER EASY! So i am on a mission….to make these for my casa…

i think its going to be really easy, the only problem i can see coming, is the jars…they are beautiful but where to find them? Any suggestions? Right now i’m thinking mason jars….the only thing is that it wont give it the look that these jars give….but we’ll see….

i need some plastic animals, some awesome glue ( i know just the type!) and some jars with a lid….hmmm…..i’ll post a tutorial if i do make this, complete with links and all!

if you guys have any suggestions, do post!

Stay Tuned to see what happens…

New Page Coming Soon!

So,

We’ve been neglecting you dear blog & dear fans. For that we deeply apologize. The Mr. and I have been working non stop on our moving out situation. We finally found a great apartment to move into and as the days are drawing to a close, we find ourselves pressed for time. Only 5 more weeks to go until we officially move in! Crazy days!

Good news though, i am adding a new page to our blog! i will be calling it Inspiration, and it comes from a lot of other blogs that have a similar page on their blogs….so i got Inspired by seeing Inspiration on other blogs. I think its just perfection :]

This new page will simply be about things that i find inspiring on a day to day basis. When i come in here to write, i will add in what inspired me that day, and hopefully when you see what inspires me, you will also get inspired. It is my goal to inspire people (maybe i was a muse in a different life o.0 )

Anyways, exciting things are coming! Check out the new page, and remember to always

KOC (Keep On Crafting) !

My love hate relationship…

My love hate relationship with Titanium…

Anyone considering developing mobile applications should download a third-party software called Titanium.  It’s a wonderful open source product that let you write cross content codes using only one language, in my case, JavaScript.  Developed and maintained by the developers from Appcelerator, visit their getting started section for helps FAQs and how-to tutorials.  While I initially had many praises for them, I now find myself in this love hate relationship with Titanium.  Consider some pros and cons before completely investing yourself

Pros:

The sheer amount of time saved coding in one language instead of using Objective-C and/or Java.

JavaScript is a simple programming language that is flexible and easy for beginners to learn while Objective-C and Java are for more experience programmers.

Memory management and other complex features are handled by the software, this leave the developers more times to focus on other aspects such as the UI (user interface).

Open source product which has many available modules, written by other developers, some even from Appcelerator themselves, these you can download and extents upon.

Cons:

Tons of glitch and bugs that are caused by the software which result in costly debugging time.

Since memory management and other complex aspects are handled by the software, you are unable to access them which result in blind coding (you’re hoping the software is doing what it should be doing).

API are ridiculously poorly documented and their Q&A forum is poorly structure.  If you’re lost or having problems, your best bet is to rely on other developers for assistance.

I personally had some great experience coding using Titanium.  My attempt at learning Objective-C didn’t work out so well once I realized how much more complicated it is.  My formal programming languages was Java, C#, and VB.Net with a little bit of HTML toss in.  Coding with Objective-C was difficult while with JavaScript I felt right at home. Leave some comments with your personal experiences, I’ll be glad to hear them!

Trying to get fit? Use a sidekick!

Get in shape, stay fit, and be healthy!

A few months ago, I gave myself a little push up the fitness ramp.  Having given up on it a year and a half ago, I decided the best way to get back on the treadmill was to make it an activity I could do with the Miss.  From going to the gym together and coming up with supplementary diets plan, time pass by no less than a month before we given up on it.  Well the Miss did, I kept going but cut back from 5 days a week to ….once or twice a week…

To help myself shed those unwanted pounds without being an active gym rat, I started researching mobile applications that would help me improve my posture, or at least keep track of my calories.  Having noticed several fitness apps, I started testing them to see their potential.  Some were simple application that revolved around one feature while others sport additional features such as syncing from your phone and being able to see your result via their website.  Best of all, most of them are free and should be available on Android and iOS market.

One of my favorite app from the Android Market is My Fitness Pal. It has been designed from the bottom up revolving around one simple feature, keeping track of your calories. It’s relatively easy to use, the interface has been streamlined for easy access and simplicity without clustering it with unnecessary information.  Not only does it keep track of your calories, it keep track of the vitamin and nutrition, combined with a full feature syncing from mobile to website feature.  Signing up for an account, to enable the syncing, take only a few minutes and clicks.  Users should take note that because the application is free, there is advertisement in the application, usually at the top or bottom portion.

Another applications that I’m fond of is LiftPro. This one focus on being the best gym buddy ever. Plenty of useful exercises, usually with images displaying the how-to and written clear instructions, combined with a sleek interface and useful workout tracker, don’t enter the gym without it.  As with My Fitness Pal, this one is free as well and is ridden with advertisement.

Post some comments from your own experience with mobile application and let me know what you think!

Craft Time Wednesday- Showing Some Hair Love

Hello everyone! Happy Wednesday! Today’s tutorial came to me from a tutorial i had seen online about barrettes with brads. I immediately thought “what a great idea!” but was saddened by the fact that i didn’t have brads. I quickly realized, however, that i had other things that i could use around here, and made the best use of them! I will show you how to make different kind of barrettes my way, and i will also post the original inspiration for you guys to enjoy. Its important to remember that sometimes you don’t need to go out and spend all this money on a “new” project if you can try and come up with a way to use what you already have! Have fun and as always, keep on crafting!!

Barrett’s from Brads Tutorial

To view the tutorial that gave me my idea, click on the above picture.

now, to start off please gather these supplies:

  • scissors
  • Fabric
  • needle and thread
  • Fabric button kit (i got mine at Walmart for about a dollar, brings 5 small buttons you can assemble yourself)
  • any flat bottom beads/cabochons (i had some left over from when i made earrings)
  • Craft bond glue ( i was using the “goop” craft brand. has worked wonders for me)
  • Bobbi Pins/ Barret’s (i happen to have both and used them both)

Now, this project cost me nothing because i had everything on hand, but most of this stuff is cheap and you can make TONS of stuff with it, so if you dont happen to have any of these things at home, see if you could find similar items before you go out and bye anything. You can REALLY get down with your creative self this way :)

Step 1-

Take your button kit and assemble your bottoms (follow kit instructions, its easy you insert the cloth, then the button head, then the bottom and use the “pusher” to pull it all taut)

This is what they should look like at the end:

Step 2

take your needle and thread and make a rolled flower by rolling your fabric around and around and sewing it every few rolls. Click here to see how this is done

This is what mine looked like in the end: (sorry i only have one that is already assembled)

Step 3

Add your adhesive/ Craft Bond Glue to the backs of your newly formed buttons or the beads you might have on hands and assemble! (to make it easier for me, i bent the back of the button with the ends of my scissors, be VERY careful though…can be tough, i would suggest using pliers. )

Also make sure to follow your glue’s instructions, mine said to wait 24 hours for the adhesive to dry.

Ta-Da!!!

I hope you enjoyed this tutorial, and let me know if you have any questions/Comments, also send us your creations!. Don’t forget to enter our giveaway to win some cool prizes, and keep on crafting!
