Say bye bye windows.old

oh windows.old how you frustrate me.

A few days ago I upgrade my operating system from Window 7 Home Premium to Window 7 Ultimate.  Lucky for me, window OS keeps a copy of the previous window files and rename them as windows.old.  Eventually I had to delete those files to free up spaces.  Unfortunately windows.old can’t be deleted through normal conventional mean such as simple delete to recycle bin.  Believe me, I tried, you’ll get this cryptic message of how it can’t be located or it can’t be deleted.

Fear not, there are solutions and workarounds.  Taken from Microsoft on “how do I remove Windows.old folder”

  1. Open Disk Cleanup by clicking the Start button. In the search box, type Disk Cleanup, and then, in the list of results, click Disk Cleanup. If you’re prompted to choose a drive, click the drive you just installed Windows on, and then click OK.
  2. In the Disk Cleanup dialog box, on the Disk Cleanup tab, click Clean up system files. If you’re again prompted to choose a drive, click the drive you just installed Windows on, and then click OK.
  3. Select the Previous Windows installation(s) check box, and any other check boxes for the files you want to delete, and then click OK.
  4. In the message that appears, click Delete Files.
Now it’s possible that the option to choose “Previous Windows installation(s)” won’t be there.  In that case, try disabling the UAC (user access control) on your administrator account then try running Disk Cleanup again.  If this still doesn’t work, there is another way and it involve using your command prompt.
  1. Open the command prompt by clicking the Start button.  In the search box, type cmd, and then, in the new window, you should see something similar to this
“C:\Users\(your name here)”  In my case I would see “C:\Users\Ethan”
  2. Type in the following line “RD /S /Q “C:\Windows.old”.  Replace the C letter with the correct drive where windows.old is located at.  For example, if Windows.old is located on the D drive, type in RD /S /Q “D:\Windows.old”.  When you’re ready, press enter and you should be prompt for a Yes or No. Make certain you’re ready to delete then enter in “Yes” and that should solve the issue.
  3. Restart your computer to verify windows.old folder has been deleted.

Wild day at the park

Rise and shine and get your Monday morning wallpaper!

Coming off from a fantastic weekend and surviving the much hype Carmageddon, I present this week wallpaper!  A few weeks ago, I went with the Miss and her family to the San Diego Wild Animal Park.  Out of all the pictures I took with my camera, I was looking for something that would convey nature and tranquility. I hope everyone enjoy this wallpaper as much as I do.

News around the world!

Welcome to another segment of I.T{ea} Thursday

Tons of news around the world, up ahead, RIM (Research In Motion) announced they will be launching 7 new smart phones in the coming months.  Read more about them from The Guardian or BGR if you’re interested. I myself find RIM to be fighting a losing battle. Major players such as Apple and Google released products with cutting edge technology while RIM struggle just to play catch up.

Since last year, rumors has pointed to Amazon releasing their very first tablet.  Lately some hot rumors here and here has surfaced, claiming Amazon would be releasing several tablets running Android OS and should be available to order this year.  Yay, I’ll be taking the next few minutes to update my xmas wish list :)

Important news for Netflix users. In case you didn’t know, Netflix has changed their pricing structure for those who stream movies and rent DVDs at the same time.  Before the changes, unlimited streaming and a DVD was available for the low price of $9.99.  Now they separated it into two different plans, in order to get both unlimited streaming and unlimited DVDs, 1 out at-a-time, it’ll be 15.98 or $7.99 each.  It’s about a 60% price hike for those who are currently subscribing for unlimited streaming and unlimited DVD rental.  As expected, most of their customers are furious and have claim to cancel their subscription.

That’s it for this week.  Look forward to this coming Monday for our next exciting wallpaper.

The life of a flower, blushing in full bloom.

Every time I see a flower, I get an odd sensation of grabbing it and try to shoot out fireballs…(like in Mario)

Good morning bloggers and readers, welcome back from your wonderful well deserved weekend.  Much has happened over the past few days, including a recent trip to the City of Sin and an awesome day at the San Diego Wild Animal Park with the Miss and her family.

A few weeks ago, I went on my very first white river rafting trip.  I originally signed up for a category 2 event, much to my delight, it got bumped to a category 3 because of the recent rains.  While waiting for what felt like an eternity but was really 10 minutes, I wandered around and took these shots of several flowers, blooming to their fullest.

I made some minor tweaks to accentuate the lips, the flowers and the edges of the leaves; the background has been blurred out to bring your attention to the center piece.  Hopefully you will enjoy this wallpaper as much as I do.

“Pew pew pew” said the Miss

…random post of the week…

“Pew pew pew” said the Miss, poking me with her fingers when I woke up from an hour long nap.  Over the past few days, I been drugging myself to sleep to fight off a nasty cold that thought it might be funny to attached itself to me. The Miss has been nursing me to the better of her ability as she goes on throughout her routine.  Occasionally we get into a cute quip match that usually end up with her pouting.  “No fair” I claimed, her cutesy girl powers override all previous facts and swing arguments toward her favor.  How she does it and why does she get away with it? Who knows…

We spent the better of our weekends together, like all couple would, she knitting/crocheting (whichever, I literally don’t know the difference) whatever is on the latest trend, humming away to the theme song of Pokemon and mouthing the catch phase “Gotta catch em all!”.   Myself resting and reading the latest book from Simon R. Green on my awesome Kindle.  Thankfully I wasn’t feeling as bad toward the end of the day and we were able to go out to watch a movie.  Transformer 3: Dark side of the Moon.  Which in my opinion, wasn’t as exciting as the second one, which has been judged to be the worst of the three according to many critic’s opinions.  During the movie, I found out something interesting, the Miss actually thought Bumblebee was the same as Optimus Prime.

The Miss defended herself so innocently and casually that it was hard Not to believe her, she honest to Primus, believe they were one and the same.  Of course, given my personality, I teased her endlessly while she argued against me, using years of experience through her silver tongue.  I believed at one time or another, we even argued if Harry Potter was stronger then Optimus Prime.  Yeah….Harry Potter vs Optimus Prime….

Wrapping up our awesome weekend was the 4th of July celebration.  I bought over some Korean BBQ, tasted for the very first time by many on the Cuban side.  As such, her grandma made some awesome tidbit and we had the traditional hot dogs and hamburgers.  Our day together ended with some amazing fireworks, hosted by the city of RSM.  My hour long home was hammered by other drivers speeding on the 405 freeway.

Enjoy the rest of your week readers and bloggers, I myself look forward to spending more time with the Miss, even if her casual habits get on my nerves…

Sharing is caring…except when you’re sick then it’s revenge.

Google, me like you.

A few days ago Google announced their latest addition to their web apps, Google + (plus), a strong weight contender entering the social network arena. This as we all know, is dominated by Facebook, pioneered by Mark Zuckerberg. Google has tried several times in the past with Google Wave and Buzz but unfortunately both of which became DOA, so what makes Google + a better contender?

For starters, your privacy is handled much differently and is more specific to whomever you choose. For example, Google + allows you to create different social circles from within your homepage, then you can assign limits to those circles such as being able to view certain photos or comments. Think of it as letting your family see pictures from your wonderful summer vacation while letting only your friends see their crazy wild weekends away, no boys allowed.

Another aspect that seems interesting is how you add/follow “friends”. Rather then requiring consents from both parties, Google + allow you to follow anyone seamlessly, similar to how Twitter work, then assigns them to one of your circles. Think of this as following people with similar hobbies and interests rather then trying to win a popularity contest to see who has the most friends.

However, you should know that Google + is only by invitation and is currently in the beta stage. Currently invites have been blocked to allow more control testing and bug stomping. It won’t replace Facebook anytime soon, if ever, but it will most certainly draw away some of the active users of Facebook. Given a few more years to work out the kinks and the addition of more functionality, I smell a Google + movie in the works.

That’s it for this week of I Tea Thursday, I’m been fighting the nasty cold for the past few days and need my rest, so says the Miss btw.

Craft Time Wednesday- Answering Fans Questions

Hello there and welcome to another craft time Wednesday!

This week’s post  has to start with a bit of news :/

There will be no Wednesday post for next week as I will be halfway around the world in a little island called Cuba. However, when I return I shall have a post fit for all you wonderful viewers out there! Meanwhile you can all review my previous posts, you can download some wallpapers, or you can enter our current giveaway!

I will miss making a post next week, but with school and Cuba, I just wont have time before I leave :(

Now, on to much happier news, I was asked a question when I made my rolly coaster tutorials by a long time dear friend and I fan (yay!) of FF 2.0, Clarissa, How she can make a nautical belt like the one which I show in my pictures. I had said at the time that I also admired the belt, however I did not know how to make on myself as I had just gotten the picture of the net, but I finally found a tutorial for it!

So without further adieu, I give you these excellent tutorials on how to make this Cute Cuff , Necklace  and regular nautical knots (that I’m sure you can apply to the belt as well)

Enjoy!
